Saint Sebastian Tended by Saint Irene, 1935. Original oil on canvas by Alfons Graber (1901-1990). Huge size, almost 29x43" framed. The style is a combination of modern and old master technique; Graber often stated that his work was a fight between these two periods and referred to his work as neo-baroque (it is similar to, though darker than, his contemporary Marc Chagall.) Born in Switzerland, Graber spent his career in Austria and Germany. There is a museum of his work in Steinach am Brenner at the Swiss / Austrian border. This painting is signed and dated 1935, it is the best example of his work that I've ever seen on the market.

Excellent condition with a minute repair to the undetailed black of the canvas, and other age-appropriate wear. This beautifully preserved painting of an iconic scene in rare quality is unsigned, though it's certainly attributable by subject, age, quality, and style to the circle of Théodule Armand Ribot (French, 1839 -1916), or to the artist himself.
