This was reportedly made for one of the 60s/70s Planet of the Apes movies, as a prop in a scene that took place in an ape museum's pseudo-seventeenth century exhibit. Whatever the origin, he is magnificent.

$1,480  /  DE-001026

Masterful 17th C. oil on canvas of the Temptation of Saint Anthony, attributable to David Teniers, the Younger (1610-1690, Flemish). The strainer-style supports are period-appropriate for Teniers, and the quality of brushwork and the signature imagery are indistinguishable from the Flemish painter's (Teniers painted multiple versions of this subject, with comparable pieces in the Museo del Prado and Museum of Antwerp). The centuries-old painting was relined at some point in its history (likely nearly a century ago). Painting is in excellent condition with age-appropriate wear, wood frame dates later and is excellent as well. Measures about 24.5" x 28.5" framed.
